The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team and head coach Samantha Williams announced their 2020-21 non-conference schedule on Monday afternoon.
The Colonels open up the year at home against in-state opponent Bellarmine University on Nov. 25. This is the first meeting between the two teams since 1986. This is the Knights’ first year as a Division I school in basketball and they finished last year at 18-11.
Coach Williams and company will head west to take on national power Louisville on Nov. 29. The Cardinals ended last year ranked No. 6 in the country and finished with a record of 28-4. Dana Evans, last year’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, returns for the Cardinals after averaging 18 points-per-game a year ago. Louisville comes in ranked No. 5 in the Way-Too-Early Top 25 poll.
EKU welcomes in Alabama A&M to McBrayer Arena on Dec. 15. The Bulldogs posted a 17-13 record last year and a 12-6 conference record. Alabama A&M returns its top two scorers from last year, including SWAC Newcomer of the Year and SWAC First Team member Dariauna Lewis.
Eastern hits the road for its last two non-conference games of the year starting with a trip to Chattanooga. The Colonels defeated the Mocs last year, 71-65, in Richmond. The Mocs finished last year 11-18 and 10-4 in the SoCon.
The Colonels finish their non-conference with a trip to Evanston, Illinois to take on Big Ten foe Northwestern. The Wildcats finished last year at 26-4 and ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll. Northwestern returns leading scorer Lindsey Pulliam who averaged 18.8 points-per-game. The Wildcats come in ranked No. 16 in the preseason Way-Too-Early Top 25 poll.
This is the first ever meeting between Eastern and Northwestern.
